Local First Nations people tell traditional stories and speak about Nitsitapii (Blackfoot) culture. Come listen by the fire in a large teepee at the Crandell Theatre.

All of our 'wild things' here in the park are connected. Come help Cate look for the missing piece of the wild puzzle that connects Waterton's wolves, elk and aspens.

 

Glacier Range Presentation

Waterton-Glacier is a Peace Park in more than just name. Friday nights we have a staff exchange, and you benefit! A Glacier National Park Ranger joins us Fridays to provide an American perspective on the variety of plants, animals and processes that are unfazed by our international border.

Pit your wits against the brainiacs of the bird world in Waterton in this interactive game show for all ages.

 

Born to Burn: A Spicy Recipe for Fire!
Saturdays- Crandell Theatre, 8pm


What are the right ingredients for fire in the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park? Wildfire is pitted against prescribed burns in the Fire Recipe Challenge. Who will smoke out the competition and who will fizzle in defeat?

GUIDED HIKES

Through Ancient Eyes: Bison, Binchgrass and Burning
Thursdays, 9am- 12 pm


What was it like to live in Waterton 10,000 years ago? Where did people camp and what did they do here? Explore these questions as you walk along the side of Mt. Bellevue, through the grasslands to the bison paddock.

Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles), return
Level of Difficulty: Easy Stroll

Where: Meet at the grassland trail below Mt. Bellevue. Drive west on Red Rock Parkway 2.5 km (1.5 miles) (or 5km east if you're coming from Crandell Campground). This trailhead is unmarked, so look for the Parks Canada vehicle and a trail snaking through the grassland at a parking pullout on the north side of Red Rock Parkway.

 

Prairie Fire Hike
Sundays & Thursdays, 1pm- 4pm


Is there life after fire? Decide for yourself. Come for a walk in the area where park Staff lit a prescribed fire two years ago, between Lower Waterton Lake and the Chief Mountain Highway. This is a quiet, shady area of the park with wonderful wildflowers and birds.

Distance: 6 km (4 miles), return
Level of Difficulty: Easy

Where: Wishbone Trailhead. Drive south on the Chief Mountain Highway approximately 200 meters. The trailhead is on the right hand side, by the barrier gate. Park on the left side of the road.

 

International Peace Park Hike
Wednesdays & Saturdays, 10am- 6:30 pm


Please join us in a 30-year tradition. Beginning in Waterton, hike to Glacier Park, USA, and then return by boat to Canada. This hike is co-led by a Canadian Park Interpreter and an American Park Ranger.

Distance: 13 km (8 miles), one-way
Level of Difficulty: Moderate

Where: Meet at Bertha Trailhead in Waterton Lakes National Park

Spaces are limited so please pre-register, either in person, or by phoning the Waterton Visitor Centre (403) 859-5133, or the St. Mary Information Center (406) 732-7750.

Cost: The hike is free, but there is a charge for the boat ride back. If possible, please purchase boat tickets in advance at Waterton Inter-Nation Shoreline Cruise at the Marina in Waterton.

You will need an official government-issued photo identification card for U.S. or Canadian citizens or permanent residents. All others must carry a valid passport.

 

There and Back Again: Waterton Townsite Tour
Sundays & Tuesdays, 1pm- 3pm


Oil rigs, dance halls, hotels, homes and boats! The park has seen them come and go but the reason people come remains the same. Join us for a walk into Waterton's past.

Distance: 3 km (2 miles), return
Level of Difficulty: Easy

Where: Meet at the Prince of Wales Hotel Lobby.

 

City of Trees: A Hike to Crandell Lake
Fridays, 10am- 12pm


Explore the "city in the forest" with Park Interpreter Lauren and discover places where pine trees have penthouses and roots are like railways!

Distance: 5 km (3 miles), return
Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Where: Crandell Lake Trailhead in Crandell Campground

FREE THEATRE, ARTS & CRAFTS

Blackfoot Beads and Stories
Tuesdays & Saturdays, 10am- 12 pm


Join our Blackfoot Interpreters in the Crandell Theatre teepee. Learn about traditional arts & crafts, hear stories and make a small craft to take home with you. Parking is limited, so please consider riding the free shuttl to Crandell Campground and find us by the theatre.

 

Oh Deer, A Doe! Street Theatre
Fridays & Saturdays, 1:30pm and 3pm


What's going on with the deer in town? They seem pretty friendly, but why do some have odd coloured spots?

Join the Waterton Interpreters beside the Heritage Centre for an up-close and personal encounter with the mule deer.

This short performance (about 15 minutes) is the perfect place for an afternoon picnic or snack. Weather permitting.

 

HOW DO YOU FIND THESE SHOWS?

FALLS THEATRE:The Falls Theatre is part of the Waterton townsite campground. You can find it just south of Cameron Falls. Look for the very low roof, and steel doors!

CRANDELL THEATRE: The Crandell Theatre is in the Crandell campground, along the Red Rock Parkway. It is between loops D and E. This is also where you will find the Crandell teepee.
